Duke Kahanamoku
Born and bred at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii Duke Kahanamoku was considered a suberb allround waterman with his swimming Olympic gold medals, paddling and surfing abilities. He is considered the father of modern surfing by many and introduced the sport to the Australians in 1915 when he put on an exhibition at Freshwater Beach riding a board he crafted from sugar pine while in Australia.

The Duke was just as well known for his generosity and aloha spirit.
